Cadherin-16 (CDH16), also known as kidney-specific cadherin (Ksp-cadherin), is a tissue-specific member of the cadherin family of adhesion molecules. It is a glycoprotein expressed by tubular epithelial cells in the kidney. Cadherins are calcium dependent cell adhesion proteins. They preferentially interact with themselves in a homophilic manner in connecting cells;cadherins may thus contribute to the sorting of heterogeneous cell types.
