Rbms1 (RNA binding motif single strand interacting protein 1), also known as c2orf12. The gene encodes a small protein family member that binds to single stranded DNA/RNA. These proteins are characterized by the presence of two sets of ribonucleoprotein common sequences (rnp-cs), including the conserved motifs rnp1 and rnp2, which were originally described in RNA binding proteins and are necessary for DNA binding. These proteins are involved in DNA replication, gene transcription, cell cycle progression and apoptosis. Rbms1 can interact with the upstream region of myc gene, and can also specifically bind to DNA sequence motif 5 '- [at] CT [at] [at] T-3'.
