Syk (spleen tyrosine kinase) is a 635 amino acid protein that contains one protein kinase domain and two SH2 domains. It plays an important role in intracellular signal transduction in hematopoietic cells.It is widely expressed in hematopoietic cells and is involved in coupling activated immunoreceptors to downstream signaling events that mediate diverse cellular responses, including proliferation, differentiation, and phagocytosis. wo isoforms of Syk, designated short and long, exist due to alternative splicing events.
