Human NHE-1 protein, known also as solute carrier family 9 isoform-1, SLC9A1, is a ten transmembrane domain-spanning receptor that contains an N-terminal amphiphatic domain and two putative N-glycosylation sites. The protein is a plasma membrane transporter that is expressed in the kidney and intestine. This NHE-1 plays a central role in regulating pH homeostasis, cell migration and cell volume. This protein may also be involved in tumor growth.
