Members of the Toll-like receptor (TLR) family, named for the closely related Toll receptor in Drosophila, play a pivotal role in innate immune responses. The TLR family of proteins are characterized by a highly conserved Toll homology (TH) domain, which is essential for Toll-induced signal transduction. TLR1 interacts with TLR2 and coexpression of TLR1 and TLR2 enhance the NF-kappaB activation in response to a synthetic lipopeptide.
