Calpain is a calcium activated neutral protease that is a non lysosomal intracellular cysteine protease that catalyzes limited protein hydrolysis of substrates involved in cytoskeleton remodeling and signal transduction. Mammalian calpain includes commonly found stomach specific and muscle specific proteins.
