Galnt2, a member of glycosyltransferase 2 protein family, initiates mucin O-glycosylation of peptides in Golgi matrix. Galnt2, a GalNAc transferase involved in O-linked glycosylation, can regulate the risk of atherosclerotic dyslipidemia (a specific marker of insulin resistance), and act as a positive regulator of insulin signal in human hepatocytes by down regulating ENPP1. It may participate in the O-linked glycosylation of the hinge region of immunoglobulin A1, and may also affect the level of triglycerides, which may be related to type 2 diabetes and several cancers.
