Bim can interact with other members of the BCL-2 protein family and act as an activator of apoptosis. Bim may play a role in the apoptosis process of neurons and lymphocytes. The different isoforms of this gene exhibit differences in inducing cell apoptosis and anoikis. Among them, the induction efficiency of isomer BimL is higher than that of isomer BimEL. Although isomers Bim - α 1, Bim α 2, and Bim-1 α 3 can induce cell apoptosis, their efficacy is not as good as isomers BimEL, BimL, and BimS. Isoform Bim gamma also has the ability to induce cell apoptosis. The isomer Bim - α 3 may induce cell apoptosis through a caspase mediated signaling pathway. However, the BimAC and BimABC isoforms lack the ability to induce cell apoptosis.
